Her Excellency Dr. Ing Kanthaphavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, led a delegation of women to pay a courtesy call on the President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, at a ceremony to celebrate the 114th anniversary of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, under the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for All Women and Girls.”

On the occasion of presiding over the welcoming of a delegation of women from relevant ministries and institutions at the national and sub-national levels, led by Her Excellency Dr. Ing Kanthaphavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, on the morning of March 4, 2025, at the National Assembly.

Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, delivered a speech congratulating the 114th anniversary of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, which was celebrated under the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for All Women and Girls.” She said that International Women’s Day, March 8, is celebrated every year around the world to commemorate the struggle and heroic example of women in demanding their rights, freedom, status, role, and dignity, and avoiding oppression in the past.

The President of the National Assembly expressed her pleasure, welcome, and gratitude for the presence of Her Excellency, participants, and all the women’s delegation who make time to meet with the National Assembly today and that International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, which is held under the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for All Women and Girls,” is truly an important theme and most appropriate to the current context both in the global framework in Cambodia because this theme highlights and emphasises the value of women, the importance of obtaining and implementing rights, promoting equality, and strengthening empowerment for all women and girls in Cambodia. In particular, it responded to the Pentagon Strategy, Phase 1 of the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly, which focused on 5 key priorities, including people, roads, water, electricity, and technology.

The President of the National Assembly also spoke about the efforts of the National Assembly in promoting gender equality in law-making, which is comprehensive and comprehensive in mainstreaming gender equality in public policies and laws that take into account women’s challenges. The National Assembly is also strongly promoting the cause of gender equality and women’s empowerment through the many initiatives and parliamentary forums of the Cambodian National Assembly Group of Women Politicians and encouraging women members to actively participate in mechanisms at both the national and international levels. The President of the National Assembly requested ministries, institutions, and relevant partners to continue their efforts by ensuring that girls and women have full opportunities in capacity building, strengthening education, morality, and ethics, and increasing knowledge and skills in promoting gender equality and social protection in order to develop human resources. The National Assembly Group of Women Politicians must continue to contribute more actively by collaborating with relevant parties in the cause of women through legislative work, which is the core work of the institution, to create laws and legal norms aimed at protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls in all sectors.

Her Excellency Dr. Ing Kanthaphavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, said that for the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs has chosen the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for All Women and Girls” with the aim of highlighting the potential and necessity of promoting the participation and representation of women and girls in all sectors, in response to the context of social development and in line with the vision outlined in the Five-Point Strategy, Phase 1 of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the policy framework to promote gender equality and increase the empowerment of women and girls.

On behalf of Cambodian women, the minister expressed her deep gratitude to the National Assembly, which has always supported the draughting, review, and approval of laws that protect the rights and interests of citizens, both men and women. The National Assembly’s continued support for the implementation of policies promoting gender equality is still important to accelerate the achievement of equitable and inclusive social development.
